Sent Him To Hell
Out in the high desert country… It isn’t like the big city
You just do what you have to do… When you know the truth
Two ranch kids best of friends
Cowboy Johnny and Too Slim Ben
Johnny’s sister Jess was a real fine looker
And Ben was so in love with her
She played the fiddle and sang in a band
Johnny and Ben were her biggest fans
She had a scholarship to become a vet
While the boys hadn’t even shaved yet
Out in the high desert country… It isn’t like the big city
You just do what you have to do… When you know the truth
One day she went to the co-op to shop
She should have been home by 6 o’clock
Just after 10 the police called
Johnny’s mom started to bawl
They found her face down in Dove Creek
The police said it wasn’t pretty
Ben heard the voice of Jess sing in the breeze
He knew he had to go to Dove Creek
He found a clue missed by the police
A wallet and ID buried in the reeds
Johnny and Ben grabbed guns and ammo
Then headed west toward Montello
Out in the high desert country… It isn’t like the big city
You just do what you have to do… When you know the truth
The boys weren’t nervous on the road
It was just another wild rodeo
They found him drunk on whiskey
with her bloody high school ring
They took him out to pilot Peak
They made him bleed and made him scream
When he asked for mercy they sent him to hell
Johnny and Ben swore they would never tell
Two ranch kids best of friends
Cowboy Johnny and Too Slim Ben
