Running From a Storm
I heard it
For the first time
As I was… Running… From a storm
So many years before
Like hundreds and hundreds
Of faraway… Pounding drums
Or maybe… A thousand or more
Slamming doors
Again… Today at sunrise
As stars melted… From the sky
I heard a rumble
Like dark angels… In chorus
Or maybe… The thunder of war
Then I was sure
It was pounding hooves
Of a thousand wild horses
Running… From a storm
But as I looked… From the window seal
The world… Lay gray and still
I wondered… Am I being warned
Was it just my heart
Begging me to start
Running… From a storm
But I refused… To listen to me
It was so easy… Not to think
Not to feel… Not to see
So I choose… To ignore
Then I slammed a thousand doors
Just like so many… Years before
Once again
I find myself
Running… From a storm
